5 Rules For Website Design
When building a website you may want it to make an impact and look good, but it also needs to serve its purpose. When operating online you do not have face to face contact so your website is the face of your business so your website design must be good. It must give the right impression for your business style but also make all the information fully accessible to your customers. Your website has to do the job it was designed to do, whether it be selling a product, making a contact or directing to an affiliate. Hopefully these tips should help with the basics.
Splash pages are not to be used!
When you arrive at a site and get a welcome page with great pictures and ‘click here to enter’ buttons then you have just visited a splash page. They are of no use and a waste of space and time!
Banner advertisements don't work
The majority of people never even see banner ads anymore so they are a waste of space. Having a site full of banner advertisements will put people off reading what your website has to say so all your hard work will be wasted. If you are promoting affiliates then try to entice your visitors with links worked into your content instead of standing out.
Simple navigation is a must
Ensure your visitor knows what there is to see on your site and can find there way around easily.
Let the viewer know where they are
A breadcrumb trail will help a visitor know exactly where they are and will help them move on to the next section.
Don't have background audio
There is nothing more annoying than having music playing in the background when you are trying to read something.
Many people now buy website templates to save time on designing there own. If you do choose to buy a website template then don't make the mistake of taking hours changing the template as this defies the purpose of buying the template to save time. I am not saying don't change it but don't take hours doing so make simple changes to add your details.
When looking for a website template ensure you don't choose the most popular as it will already be in use all over the web and your site will look like many other. Also choose a template that will serve your purpose and Not just look good.
